Greetings!

Bringing our show around the world has been a dream come true-and getting to do it together makes it even sweeter. Along the way, we’ve experienced extraordinary creativity in so many communities. We’ve also seen, up close, how hard it is right now for theatres to keep going.

Spaces for new work—places where writers can take risks, fail a little, and try again-are becoming harder to find. And when you’re creating something new, those spaces aren’t just helpful…they’re everything.

We first met Robert Kelley through the National Alliance for Musical Theatre, which led to Theatre Works’ writers retreat and the early development of Mitzvah. The following year, bringing My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding to the New Works Festival gave us the chance to rediscover our first show—and to find a community that has stayed with us ever since.

Not long after, Come From Away took on a life we never could have predicted. The theatre community embraced us in a way that reminded us of the people of Gander—showing up with generosity and heart when it mattered most.

That’s what TheatreWorks does. They show up for artists. They make space for new stories—at a time when those spaces are disappearing.

When they welcomed us back in 2025 to develop Vienna at the New Works Festival, it felt like coming home. The work grew in ways we couldn’t have anticipated, and we’re excited to keep building it this August.

But right now, TheatreWorks needs that same sense of community to show up for them.

As Season 56 comes to a close—and the fiscal year-end approaches—we hope you’ll make a gift today.

Please don’t wait. A contribution right now—before June 30—directly supports the artists and stories already in motion at TheatreWorks. It ensures that new work like Vienna can continue to grow, and that writers like us have a place to create.

Give what you can. Give today. And help keep this kind of theatre alive.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Irene Sankoff and David Hein
