Witness the “stranded” songs, stories, and characters that were cut from the final Broadway production of Come From Away. Join creators Irene Sankoff and David Hein at the table and take a “Gander” into the playwriting process at this fundraising event benefitting TheatreWorks.
About Come From Away and Cut From Away
On September 11, 2001, the world changed forever. This New York Times Critics’ Pick takes you into the heart of the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.
David and Irene kept 23 original songs in the final Broadway production, but several did not make it to the final script. Cut From Away is a special one-night only experience, where audience members will not only see these unreleased works but hear from David and Irene about their creative choices.
Welcome to the Gander Community
“Screech In” and immerse yourself in the community of Gander with your fellow passengers at TheatreWorks!
The festivities will start with a hearty Lobster Clambake and a live band, where we will break bread with our special guests David and Irene and talk amongst good friends. Bid on the live auction, check out real props from the show, kiss the cod, and become a Newfoundlander!
The Lobster Clambake dinner starts with a 1 ¼ lb Whole Maine lobster* for each guest, clams, mussels, corn-on-the-cob, red potatoes, and sausage layered with seaweed in a large steamer box, and steamed in the fresh air. Guests will experience wonderful aromas as the clambake is served amid billowing steam along with a hot cup of New England Clam Chowder from Sam’s Chowder House, coleslaw, and watermelon slices.
*Vegetarian options can be provided upon request.
Share the table with your fellow ‘Come From Aways’ and get the full Newfoundlander experience. Complete with a smooch with a fish, show memorabilia, and prime views of the performance.
