Communications Associate

Position Summary

The Communications Associate is responsible for supporting and implementing a multi-channel communications strategy to strengthen TheatreWorks’ brand, promote its mission, and increase tickets sales and donations for its programs and events. This institutional multimedia producer role supports content development and production and assists with public relations efforts. The Communications Associate will also support TheatreWorks equity and inclusion initiatives. This is a hybrid remote/in-office position; a minimum of three (3) days in the office, plus in-person attendance at events, select performances, and staff/board meetings is required.


Key Responsibilities


Communications

  • Develops and facilitates implementation of short- and long-term communication strategies and tactical communications plans to help achieve Theatreworks’ strategic marketing goals.
  • Oversees seasonal and institutional communication efforts and campaigns to ensure the creation of compelling content (including but not limited to audio, video, and social media) in support of productions, development, education, and general institutional branding.
  • Serves as thought partner to all departments within the organization, crafting and recommending solutions for their communications needs.
  • Writes, edits, copyedits, compiles, and proofreads textual materials, including playbills.
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of the organization’s email and content calendars.
  • Ensures consistency in tone, messaging, and branding across all communications.
  • Supports the Company's equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.


Digital Media and Website management

  • Assists in the development and implementation of digital media strategies to enhance brand visibility and engagement.
  • Analyzes digital media metrics and generates reports to assess performance and inform future strategies.
  • Updates, writes, and edits website communication.


Other duties as assigned.

  • This position is a team member of the TheatreWorks staff. All staff members support TheatreWorks at large. All personnel participate, as needed and within regularly scheduled work hours, in TheatreWorks functions, on site and off.


Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a detailed, innovative, and forward-thinking individual, with professional communications, marketing, or public relations experience. A high degree of professionalism and integrity is necessary to be successful in this position. Proven ability to work within modest budget.


Key Competencies Desired

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely; exemplary writing, editing, and copy proofing skills required.
  • Strong storytelling and content creation abilities, with the ability to adapt tone and style for various platforms and audiences.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, content management systems, and analytics tools.
  • Knows and uses Microsoft Office; is adept at learning new programs and technology.
  • Has the ability to work some nights and weekends, as required by TheatreWorks performance schedule and sale cycles.
  • Maintains a positive, productive attitude working with media, staff, artists, volunteers, patrons, and others.
  • A passion for the arts is ideal.
  • Team player and inclusive leader. Strategic, flexible and curious thinker. A fixer.
  • Must have the initiative to resolve problems in the moment and seek answers independently.


Compensation and Benefits

Salary range is $70,0000-$75,000 and benefits include employer-paid health insurance; a 403(b)-retirement plan; paid vacation; holidays; personal and sick days; season tickets to TheatreWorks; friends and family discounts; and a creative, energetic environment.

Teaching Artists

Teaching Artists are practicing professional artists with the passion, skills, and understanding of an educator.  Real-world experience in their artistic field of choice enables them to enrich their curriculum and engage a broad scope of people beyond the classroom. Teaching Artists bridge the gap between the arts and learning to cultivate the future generations of awesome individuals ready to change this world.

We Are Looking for Teaching Artists Who:

  • Possess a respect for students from all backgrounds and ages.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge, understanding, and passion for their art form.
  • Have an understanding and passion for social justice.
  • Have Equity, Diversity & Inclusion training.
  • Value process and collaboration over end product.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Have significant experience teaching their art form.
  • Are familiar with the CA Arts Standards and Common Core State Standards, as appropriate to teaching their art form.
  • Have good classroom management skills.
  • Can participate in constructive feedback.
  • Have reliable transportation and are punctual.
  • Are able to pass a background check and a TB test.
  • Are able to supply a social security number, Tax ID, or proof of authorization to work in the United States.
