TEEN PROGRAMS Research Schools
Research Schools are schools which agree to an intensive one- to three-year commitment to work with us and create research projects that are in line with the schools’ goals as well as our main stage productions. Our goals for the Research School Program are exemplified by our relationship with Eastside College Preparatory School in East Palo Alto, where we helped establish the drama program and have collaboratively created projects like the Crowns Project. In conjunction with TheatreWorks’ production of Crowns, Eastside drama students met with 20 community leaders in East Palo Alto and created monologues based on their interviews. Photography students took photos of the community leaders wearing their favorite hats, or “crowns.” The students presented a performance of the monologues and the photographs were displayed in our lobby during the run of Crowns. The Research School Program makes these specialized projects possible, and allows students to experience more in-depth projects and mentoring in the arts.
